Interviewing Basics 101

Be Prepared for the Interview!
Don’t just show up!

OK.  Your resume and your phone screen landed you an INTERVIEW.  Now what???

Here are some tips…..

Important Points to Remember:

Being prepared for the Interview means:

  • Being ready to respond to any question an interviewer might lob at you.
  • Having conducted a thorough background investigation on the company to understand their business, the competition and, how they make money.  It is also helpful to have some basic understanding of such things as the company’s annual report and the priorities the CEO has set for the company. The Internet has lots of resources that can help do this research.  Lots of those resources are detailed in other parts of this site.
  • Searching the Internet for information on the interviewer.  Knowing their personal interests and background (potentially found on either LinkedIn or FaceBook) can be very helpful in developing rapport with the interviewer.
  • Doing research with PEOPLE – NOT just the Internet. You’ll be surprised how much you can find out about the inner workings of a company from those who work there – or, those who deal with the company.
  • You have to have all of the KEY points located so a recruiter will see them in the first 15 second!
  • If your resume doesn’t make you stand out from the crowd, you’ve lost!

Other KEY POINTS:

  • Find someone who works for the company through network contacts (if you don’t already know someone) who can help by funneling your resume directly to either the hiring manager or the recruiter.
  • Recruiters will always tell you that a resume they receive from someone INSIDE the company is considered more seriously than one that just comes in either via an Internet site or the mail.
